Volvo EX40 MPG
We fully anticipate that the numbers will be similar to the XC40 Recharge’s numbers. With a single-motor drivetrain, the model’s EPA estimates are 118 MPGe in the city and 95 MPGe on the interstate. Estimated fuel economy for the Twin Motor model is 90 MPGe on the highway and 106 MPGe in the city. The XC40 Single Motor we tested returned 69 MPGe, and managed just 190 miles of driving range at 75 mph in our highway fuel economy test.

The previous dual-motor all-wheel drive XC40 Recharge accelerated to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds the last time we tested it. We expect the EX40 with new performance software options to reduce that number by about a tenth. The single-motor vehicle also showed impressive acceleration, although it took 6.5 seconds to reach 60 mph at our test track.

According to Volvo, the 79.0 kWh battery pack for the Single Motor version has a good range of up to 293 miles on a single charge. With a base 75.0 kWh battery, the Twin Motor all-wheel drive variant provides a range of about 254 miles. Volvo’s 2025 EX40 now competes with rivals like the new Audi e-tron and the new Jaguar I-Pace, although it’s not as powerful as the Model Y, which has a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge.
