It may not look like it, but it’s a useful package that offers the same roomy interior and quiet ride as the non-hybrid Sportage (which we review separately). The standard Sportage has a 187-hp four-cylinder engine, but this one has a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that give it 227 horsepower. There is also a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model that has 261 hp and can go up to 34 miles without starting the gasoline engine. Both of them can go faster than the non-hybrid Sportage, but neither of them gets the great gas mileage we expect from a hybrid car in real-world tests.

The Sportage Hybrid produces 227 horsepower and can be equipped with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid is also available; it uses the same gasoline engine as the standard hybrid, but adds an electric motor and a larger battery for a total of 261 horsepower.
How’s the performance? Both models feel significantly more responsive than the non-hybrid Sportage thanks to the additional power and low-rpm boost from the electric motor.
How’s the Real World MPG? The Sportage Hybrid delivers an EPA-estimated 38 mpg with all-wheel drive in combined city/highway driving. The standard front-wheel drive model delivers a noticeably better 43 mpg. In our testing, the Sportage Hybrid with AWD achieved a slightly disappointing 34.5 mpg on the SpeedSUV’s real-world evaluation route.
2026 Kia Sportage Release Date
What is the Launch Date? Kia has not officially confirmed the release date for the 2026 Sportage. As we all know, after 2024, they will not overhaul any models. We expect them to ship the new model by the end of 2025, as expected, but there’s no exact timetable yet.
